“Leave the presence of a fool, for there you do not meet words of knowledge.” Proverbs 14: 7
This reading for Proverbs 14 is rather ironic. Why? IF a person had the sense to know whether or not he were in the presences of a fool, he would probably not be in the presence of a fool to be begin with - and where he to find himself in the presence of a fool he would depart immediately without being instructed to do so.
Sadly, it is often a fool who is drawn to a fool and remains in the presence of that fool, and sadly, all the instruction to the contrary will likely have no effect. BUT it is not so with you who believe in Christ, for you have the Word of the Lord and the guiding of the Holy Spirit. Test all things against the Word. It is truly THE plumbline set in the midst of the people to prove whether something is wise of foolish.
Prayer: Lord God, may your Word be my steadfast guide as I journey through this day. May it be a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Keep me from the foolish and from their foolish ways, lest I join them and make their ways my own. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
