“As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him.” Matthew 9:9
When was the last time Jesus called you to do something? That’s a hard question for me to answer. Do I talk to him in prayer? Sure, does he talk back to me in an audible voice? No. Does he ask me to do stuff, like, “Can you take out the garbage?,” or “Can you give me a hand with this tire?” Nope, he doesn’t, but He does ask me to do things, and he puts those things in my way all the time. He asks me to forgive those who wrong me, and to seek the forgiveness of those I have wronged. He puts the needy in front of me and says, “Can you be the Good Samaritan for this person?”
Now that I think about it, Jesus asks me to do a lot of things - the same way He asked Matthew to follow Him. What is Jesus asking you to do today?
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, what is it you would have me do today, for you and those around me, in response to the good you have done for me? Give me ears to hear and a heart to follow. Amen.
