“We will not give our daughters to the peoples of the land or take their daughters for our sons. And if the peoples of the land bring in goods or any grain on the Sabbath day to sell, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on a holy day. And we will forego the crops of the seventh year and the exaction of every debt.” Nehemiah 10:30-31
When Nehemiah comes to Jerusalem to rebuild the wall, there is a rebirth. The people recommit to their faith.
Things often happen in our lives that lead us away from God and from His Word. We find it easier to do the will of the world than the will of God. We compromise. Truth be told we often compromise daily by what we do and what we do not do. A life of ease can lead us away from God as much as a life of hardship.
Like the father in the Parable of the Prodigal Son, God waits for us to repent and turn back to Him. When we sin Jesus is the road home. In Him, there is forgiveness and restoration because He never faltered. He never wavered. He was obedient to the will of God. God the Father graciously imparts the righteousness of the Son, when we repent (call it recommit, you like). His mercy is boundless.
Prayer: Lord God, thank you for your mercy. Your kindness is beyond measure. Give me the strength and the desire to do your will always, and give me the faith to come to you with a repentant heart when I follow the way of the world rather than your good and Godly plan. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
