“The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to Him.” Proverbs 15:8
People often want to do big things to impress others. They want to win awards and be patted on the back for a job well done. Nothing wrong with wanting to be appreciated I guess, unless that is the reason you are doing what you do … just to get the “ata-boy.”
The motivation behind what we do is what is important. A person might do something that benefits others, but he might do it out of selfish, self-centered, self-promotion. Other’s might benefit, but God sees what is behind it all.
It is better to do whatever you do - however small that might be in the grand scheme of things - in selfless faith and love. God sees all and knows all. The great things of the wicked are detestable to Him, but even the littlest prayer of a faithful person is accepted. Even a cool cup of water given to one who is thirsty is more than all the riches given out of a desire to be seen as great.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you that you have given yourself for me. Fill me with your Spirit so that I might graciously do likewise, not seeking my own elevation or reward, but simply to seek your favor in the following of your Word. In your name I pray. Amen.
