“Let us go to Judah again. The disciples said to him, ‘Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?’ John 11:7-8
God’s call can be uncomfortable. His Word convicts our comfortable hearts - hearts that are comfortable with our sin. His Word motivates our bodies - bodies that are comfortable with our our routines - with doing things they way they have always been done. But God also sent us a comforter in the person of the Holy Spirit.
More often than not, the things of God are uncomfortable because they are not the things of the world. He calls us to give charitable, to forgive others. He call us to love those who hate us. He calls us to be fools for him rather than wise according to the world, and most of all he calls us to trust him in all things. On our own we can do none of this. On our own we seek comfort and become quite comfortable in our comfort - but such comfort leads to sloth. Such comfort is derived largely from fear. But, God did not give us a spirit of fear but of power.
So do something uncomfortable today, something God has been calling you to, and know that in doing so you will not be alone. You walk in the light of Christ who goes with you, no matter the shadows that surround you.
Prayer: O Lord, strengthen me for this day and always to do your will as it might be. Lead and guide me into places I might not normally go to do things I might not normally do, so that I might bring your Word to those who do not know it. May I be lead by your Spirit always. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
