“Like a muddled spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.” Proverbs 25:26
Steadfastness. That’s the thing. We often talk of faith being our foundation: faith in God, faith in the Word, faith in Christ Jesus, faith in His sacrifice upon the cross, faith in the resurrection - FAITH. But what good is it to say, “I have faith. I believe,” if we knuckle under to the evil of the world.
To say one has faith but then supports such things as abortions (the killing of the innocent), transgenderism/disordered sexuality (opposition to God’s created order), consumerism/materialism (greed), and practice that destroy the environment (rejecting God’s call to care for Creation), is to make a mockery of faith.
We cannot adhere only to the parts of God’s Word with which we agree and and then reject the rest. God’s Word is more than “Love your neighbor” - the way you want to love them. We must first love God, and that means following His Word as He gave it … and seeking forgiveness through Christ Jesus when we fail.
Prayer: Lord Holy Spirit, keep me in true faith with ALL the Word of God, not just the pieces I cherry-pick to either fit my wants and wishes or the way of the world. Keep me steadfast in your Word so that I might love My God with all my heart and soul, mind and strength, and might love my neighbors as you have called me to love them, not as the world calls me to “love” them, which is really not love at all. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
