“The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord is avenging and wrathful; the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries and keeps wrath for his enemies.” Nahum 1:1
This is good news. Nahum prophesied the destruction of Nineveh (Assyria), which had been tyrannizing Israel. The time of punishment would come to an end for Israel and the time of retribution against her oppressor was at hand. Nahum called this “good news.”
We have been given the good news of Jesus Christ. Though we were disobedient to God the time of being tyrannized by Satan is over. Christ has broken the Evil-One’s hold upon us by shedding his precious blood upon the cross. Satan’s power has been broken. His deceptions have been laid bare. You are not hated by God but loved by him - so much so that he sent his only son so that you might have eternal life.
Strive to do the will of the Lord. Do not presume upon God’s grace as an excuse for sin, but rely upon his grace and repent. Seek forgiveness through Christ and come into the rest of the Lord.
Prayer: Almighty God, I give you thanks that you have been gracious to me, even though I have rebelled against you. Strengthen my faith in Christ Jesus and his sacrifice on my behalf so that I do not incur your wrath as did Israel and Nineveh of old. This I pray in Jesus, name. Amen.
