“Let each of you look not to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have the mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” Phil. 2:4-7
If God could humble himself and take on flesh and become a servant of that which he created, why do we - the created - find it so hard to humble ourselves and serve the one who created us by serving what He created? It is all a matter of pride and fear, or maybe it's fear and pride in that order. We fear we will not have enough or we will be cheated. We fear that the person asking doesn’t deserve our help. That is where pride comes in. At that point, we just elevated ourselves above that person.
Do we deserve God’s help? We certainly need it, but do we deserve it? No, we don’t. Yet, God helps us through our daily bread and through continuously forgiving our sins when we repent and turn to Him through faith in Christ and His sacrifice. Ought we not be as gracious to those around us?
Prayer: Lord God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - give me the spirit of Christ as my companion as I walk through this day and every day. I pray that I would be as gracious to others as you have been to me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
