“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Jesus: a veteran. Have you ever thought of Jesus in that way? Probably not. He didn’t serve in any military, yet he was a veteran - of sorts.
Jesus engaged in battle with evil itself and won. Though He died He returned to tell the story - not some inflated war story or some claim of “stolen-valor.” He fought the Devil and He won - for you and me.
The service of our veterans is like that of Jesus in that it was a sacrifice - whether they volunteered or were drafted - regardless of whether we agree with the conflict or not. Let us not misuse their gift of freedom, and more importantly let us not misuse the gift of freedom given to us by Christ Jesus through His service upon the cross. Let us dedicate our lives to the righteousness of God and to righteously using the liberty and freedom of this nation in order to glorify God.
Prayer: Lord God, I give you thanks for our savior Christ Jesus who freed us from sin and death. I give you thanks for all who served our nation’s defense, so we might be free to live in a land of prosperity and peace. May we always use these gifts according to your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
