“Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me, ‘Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and break down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.’” Jeremiah 1:9-10
When God gave Jeremiah His Word He did so for the purpose of building up and tearing down, for exhaling and bringing low, but overall to give God the glory.
God has put his word into the hearts of all who believe to build us up and to tear us down. His Word builds up the weary soul and tears down prideful heart, so that we might remain close to Him, rather than go our own way. The effect of God’s Word, whether comfort and rebuke, is for our good.
As we go through the world today, we carry God’s Word with us to use as He directs us. We are to use it with wisdom and compassion, not to hurt and to harm, or to exhale ourselves, but to give Him the glory in all we say.
Prayer: May your Word, O God, be in my heart and upon my lips so that others might be comforted and guided by it. May you receive the glory for all that I say this day. May I say nothing that would bring you displeasure or dishonor. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
