“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:3-4
It’s always a good idea to “hunt the good stuff.” By this, I mean to look for the positive, for the opportunities to do good. Try to see an obvious negative as a positive, because we are good at seeing the negatives.
Many of you know I had a rather enlightening experience hiking Pike’s Peak that caused me to reconsider my interaction with the “needy.“
Before I went to Pike’s Peak I would always see needy people asking for something and I saw that as a negative. “Are they really needy,” I would ask myself. The answer was always, “No.” As I said, it is always easy to spot the negatives and dwell on them.
Now, when I look attentively for those in need they are not there anymore. The people I normally saw at some intersection are not there. So, do good when you can. Doing good is never a negative. Don’t wait. You might not get the chance again.
Prayer: Lord God, as you have done so much good for me, may I do good for others without hesitation. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
