“House and wealth are inherited from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.” Proverbs 19:14
All the wealth in the world means nothing if there is loneliness and strife in a person’s life. Many are the people who are rich in material wealth but lack the intangibles such as peace and happiness. Money might buy you a home and heat, but it leaves you cold when you long for the warmth of friendship and love - and when the money runs out so does all the things it can buy.
A good wife - or husband, or friends, good relationships of all kinds, are worth more than all the wealth of the world, especially when you do not have them and you long for them. Like Dean Martin sang, “You may possess the world and it’s gold, but gold won’t bring you happiness when you’re growing old.” What brings happiness is meaningful relationships, and the most important relationship is the one God offers through Christ Jesus. This relationship not only sustains us in this world with peace and direction, but also brings eternal life through the forgiveness of sins. Through this relationship we have fellowship with God and with one another. It is an inheritance bestowed by God’s grace upon those who will receive it as the gift it is.
Prayer: Lord God, if the whole world were to abandon me, if I were to loose all that I posses, give me the peaceful assurance of your ever-present love and care. Keep me in true faith in Christ and in relationship with you unto eternal life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
